The Three Pillars of COMPACT: Prevention • Intervention • Education
At COMPACT, we believe lasting change begins with prevention, intervention, and education. Through community collaboration and evidence-based programs, we help youth, families, and schools address challenges before they escalate, build resilience, and make healthy choices. Our team focuses on preventing substance misuse, promoting mental wellness, and empowering youth with the knowledge and skills to thrive in every area of life.
COMPACT’s model encompasses three approaches to tackling substance misuse and addiction: Prevention, Intervention, and Education. Utilizing all three allows us to intelligently approach problems from different angles. We attempt to prevent issues before they happen through prevention, get involved with mentorship and family meetings for youth in crisis with interventions, and provide informative resources and videos through education to inform youth and parents about issues they may encounter.
COMPACT aims to prevent substance misuse and addiction before it starts. By providing the knowledge and skills they need, we help youth recognize and avoid risks that can affect their well-being and long-term health.
Our programs raise awareness about issues such as:
We take a comprehensive, community-based approach to prevention and youth development. Compact’s prevention strategies include:
Raising awareness and educating youth about risk factors and healthy decision-making.
Building strong relationships and mentoring youth to encourage resilience and confidence.
Connecting families with vital community resources and support systems.
Partnering with law enforcement and community organizations to create safe, supportive environments.

What is an Intervention?
An intervention is a planned, purposeful process designed to address specific challenges a young person may be facing — helping them make positive changes and get back on track. At COMPACT, our intervention services provide personalized guidance, accountability, and support for youth and their families through a structured and compassionate approach.
COMPACT’s Intervention Process
Identifying Who’s At Risk
COMPACT seeks to identify students and young adults who are at risk of substance abuse and addiction, or who might already be involved.
To find these individuals, career law enforcement officers gather information from various sources.
These include can include school resource officers, coaches, teachers, parents, community leaders, etc.
Anyone can refer a youth to COMPACT for help.
Initial Intervention Meeting
Our investigators then schedule a meeting with the individual’s parents. This meeting is not for the purpose of an arrest, but rather the purpose is to share the information with the individual’s parents.
It’s an introductory session to build rapport, identify challenges, and collaboratively develop strategies to promote a healthier, more positive lifestyle.
Our partners at Central Alabama Wellness can conduct a mental health assessment, which will help identify any issues that parents may or may not be aware their child is facing.
Action Plan / Parent Contract
A formal agreement outlining responsibilities for both the youth and their parents or guardians -promoting accountability, rebuilding trust, and working toward regaining privileges.
Follow-Up Mentoring
Ongoing support provided at school to reinforce positive behaviors, encourage progress, and help students stay motivated and connected.
Liaison Support
COMPACT serves as a bridge for parents and guardians, helping them access community resources, counseling, and additional support when needed.
Collaborative Approach
COMPACT works closely with school resource officers, administrators, counselors, and community partners to support youth who may be at risk for, or already involved with, substance misuse or other challenges.
Our team also collaborates with licensed counselors who conduct screenings for mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and behavioral or substance-related issues.
This coordinated, community-based approach ensures that each young person receives the care, guidance, and resources needed to build a stronger, healthier future.
Education
COMPACT is dedicated to educating youth, parents, and the community through interactive programs and presentations that promote awareness, prevention, and healthy decision-making. Our educational outreach empowers individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate today’s challenges with confidence and resilience.
